Dr Martens has teamed up with fashion designer Marc Jacobs to create an eye-catching limited edition version iconic 1460 boot made from vegan leather.
The vegan design uses Dr. Martens cherry-red vegan leather and the boots are adorned with ‘antique gold-tone chains and charms’ including a whistle, padlock and a cameo badge which take cues from the Jacobs’ own collection and give the boots a punk-robe vibe with a glamourous twist.
According to the company: “This limited-edition collaboration is born out of a shared history of rebellion that began when Marc showed his infamous grunge collection featuring Dr. Martens-clad models. Today, that same irreverent spirit continues to inspire both brands.
‘Unique collaboration’
Speaking about the collaboration on its website, the brand stated: “Marc Jacobs has always done whatever the hell he’s wanted. Brilliantly unpredictable and known for his unique and outspoken perspective on everything from fashion to societal expectations — his legacy is nothing short of legendary.
“There’s no exception with this unique collaboration. Draped with replicas of custom-made charms on a vegan-friendly upper, the imaginative designer delivers without creative compromise.”
Sadly the limited edition Dr. Martens x Marc Jacobs 1460 boots sold out within minutes of their launch on September 26 and will not be restocked.
Vegan success
The British footwear brand has seen profits rise in recent years thanks to successful sales of designs such as its popular vegan boot range.
In 2019, the company saw its profits soar by 70 per cent in the year to the end of March, and they attributed this impressive rise down to the success of its range of vegan boots.
The vegan foot range, which was awarded the Best Vegan Boot Collection at PETA’s fashion awards last year, uses vegan-friendly materials such synthetic polyurethane plastic, dubbed “Felix Rub Off” by the company, instead of leather to create vegan versions of its iconic boots.
