Blackberry Grove

Blackberry Grove, 3 Grosvenor Rd, New Brighton CH45 2LW

Slightly further outside Liverpool, this independent restaurant is in the seaside resort of New Brighton, Wirral. It is well worth the trip for inspiring vegan cuisine such as Thai green curry made with local Wirral watercress and vegetables, and succulent marinated tofu scallops. The BBQ Jackfruit burger with vegan cheese will satisfy any burger craving too.

Maray

Maray, 91 Bold Street, Liverpool L1 4HF

Maray is unmissable for their creative small plates and they serve a varied vegan menu; the restaurant is usually busy, which is a testament to the popularity of dishes such as salt baked beets with orange and endive. Every Monday from 5pm, their meat-free Monday event means you can choose four vegan dishes from the menu for £20.

Izakaya

Izakaya, 6 Castle Street, Liverpool L2 0NB

This newly opened Japanese restaurant is in the heart of the business district of Liverpool and they offer an irresistible vegan menu, including crispy tofu bao, squash and aubergine katsu curry and enoki and vegetable ramen. Vegan sushi is also on the menu and the tofu and cucumber volcano rolls and crispy squash and red cabbage rolls are delicious.

Sanskruti

Sanskruti serves Indian vegetarian and vegan food inspired by authentic dishes from various regions of India. There is an impressive variety of vegan choices available, the aubergine and tomatoes cooked in gujarati spices and garnished with coriander is a delicately spiced delight and the North Indian style jackfruit curry is hearty and satisfying. Street foods such as chaat are on the menu too, and the chaat platter is ideal to share.

On Hope Street, Host is a Pan-Asian restaurant with an excellent vegan menu, including Balinese chickpea curry with spinach, squash and coconut cream that delivers a range of exotic flavours. The crispy Brussels sprouts, cauliflower steak and onion bhajis are great to share and bright interior design and friendly, efficient service are further plus points.

Meet Frank

For somewhere fun to eat, look no further than Meet Frank located at Ghetto Golf, an indoor crazy golf course with zany décor and a bar. A purveyor of gourmet hotdogs might not sound like a destination for vegans, but there are some delectable vegan hotdogs on the menu. The Hafla Hound Dog is full of bold flavours, with sesame coated falafel topped with grilled pickled red cabbage, chillies and houmous, while the Funghi Franky is the ideal option for mushroom fans, with shredded Portobello mushroom served in a smoky house barbecue sauce. This is the ultimate place to indulge in some vegan street food in wacky surroundings.

Mowgli Street Food

This Japanese inspired restaurant and bar has a secret hideaway feel to it, with an interior design aesthetic of polished dark wood, striking artwork and flickering candlelight. Their vegan dishes include coconut rice, edamame beans tossed with sesame seeds and vegetable yakitori. Where possible, the chefs will happily adapt other dishes to suit a vegan diet too.

This unique venue combines a yoga centre with a health food café and it is a good spot for a casual daytime bite to eat with a menu of breakfasts, salads, sandwiches, soups and juices. The caprese sandwich of vegan cheese, basil and tomato on rye bread makes a tasty lunch.

Love Thy Neighbour

Love Thy Neighbour, 108 Bold St, Liverpool L1 4HY

Love Thy Neighbour is located on Bold Street, an area of the city which is full of superb restaurants. The interior design is quirky and cool, with neon signs and custom artwork and the menu is equally inventive. You can expect imaginative small plates such as coriander falafel with spiced aubergine, confit yellow cherry tomatoes and harissa dressing, and slow cooked cauliflower with celeriac, ras el hanout, raisins and almonds. Do not miss the fresh fruit smoothies and vegan cakes from local bakery Studio Raw.

A wine merchant, delicatessen, restaurant and bar in one space, The Chancery sells a selection of vegan wines that are the perfect accompaniment to their vegan meze platter, brimming with roasted vegetables, olives, houmous, aioli and crudités. The organic beetroot risotto is excellent, too.

The London Carriage Works

The London Carriage Works, 40 Hope St, Liverpool L1 9DA

Situated in the elegant Georgian Quarter of the city, The London Carriage Works is renowned for fine dining and Chef Dave Critchley formulates menus around seasonal produce. His past vegan creations have included textures of carrot with soya milk and maize as well as cauliflower with pear, roasted onion and kale. Vegan desserts are covered too; with examples including almond milk panna cotta with strawberries, and rhubarb and lemon sorbet with lime and basil. This is a wise choice for a sophisticated vegan dining experience in Liverpool.
