Gaz Oakley of Avant-Garde Vegan has been making waves with his impressive and tempting vegan dishes, proving once and for all that vegan cuisine is anything but bland and boring.

The vegan chef now boasts two vegan cookbooks to his name, a dish created in collaboration with high-street Pan-Asian restaurant wagamama and over 700,000 subscribers to his YouTube channel, so it’s no surprise that the Welsh chef has hit the Sunday Times’ list of the top influencers in the UK.

Compiled by the new influencer-intelligence platform CORQ, the list was created using its algorithm which takes into account the size of influencers accounts, the growth they have achieved and the engagement rate with the audience.

This makes the fact that Oakley ranks at number 18 in the lineup ahead of YouTube’s biggest star PewdiePie, who has over 101 million subscribers, all the more impressive.

According to the Sunday Timeslist: “Gaz Oakley is a chef, author, food blogger and vlogger who shares his vegan recipes on Instagram, his website and YouTube channel under the name Avant-Garde Vegan.

“He has written two cookbooks and has worked with Wagamama to create a vegan dish for its menu, which was launched in 2018.

“Originally from Cardiff, Gaz studied catering and worked in restaurants until the age of 20, when, feeling burnt out, he changed careers and took a sales role. His love for cooking was reignited in 2016, after becoming a vegan and starting to share recipes on Instagram.”

Oakley has long promised that he will open his first vegan restaurant when his YouTube channel reaches 1 million subscribers, so don’t forget to head to his channel and subscribe today.
