Beat the heat this summer with Banana Scoops' vegan, banana-based ice cream

Online supermarket Ocado has just launched what it claims is the UK’s first vegan banana ice cream made from entirely natural ingredients.
We vegans have long been making creamy dairy-free ice cream from bananas, but this marks the first time a major UK supermarket has offered a similar product.
Available in recyclable 500ml tubs, the Banana Scoops range features three tempting flavours – Banilla (Banana and Vanilla), Chocolate and Raspberry – all of which retail at £5.49.
In order to create the creamy vegan ice creams, Banana Scoops has blended bananas with natural ingredients including vanilla, raspberries and cocoa powder to “create an ice cream experience you’ve never tasted before.”

As well as being vegan, the ice creams offer a healthier alternative this summer as they are also free from refined sugars, artificial colours, flavours, sweeteners and are low in fat.

The rice texture of the frozen desserts is achieved by blending dates with bananas to give a hunt of sweetness and provide the ‘indulgent experience you’d expect from traditional ice cream.’
Using a banana base means this also counts as one of your 5-a-day and with calories ranging from as little as 156 for half a tub, it’s a deliciously healthy option to enjoy in your morning smoothie, as a dessert after dinner or weekend pancake topping.
In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Kerry Barker, Buying Manager at Ocado, said, “Searches for vegan ice cream have risen by 181% over the past three years, so we know that our customers are actively interested in discovering plant-based alternatives.
“Working with innovative artisan brands like Banana Scoops enables us to offer even more choices to our extensive vegan ice cream range.”
