The creators behind the vegan chicken leg, popular vegan eatery Biff's, say the product 'proves that cutting out meat doesn’t have to mean boring'.

Realistic vegan chicken wings complete with a ‘sugarcane spear’ bone are launching in 280 supermarkets across the UK, aimed at the 50 per cent of Brits who consider themselves to be flexitarian, as well as the growing plant-based market.

The product – thought to be the world’s first of its kind – is part of a plant-based meat range hitting shelves in Waitrose stores today.

Created by vegan street food restaurant, Biff’s, the Crispy Fried Jackfruit Wingz are the ‘hero’ product of the plant-based line.

According to the brand, the realistic vegan chicken with a bone means the wings ‘deliver a genuine wing-eating experience in all its gratifyingly hands-on glory – without the meat’.

Biff’s Plant Shack

The Biff’s Plant Shack range also includes Crispy Fried Jackfruit Burgers, Smoky Chilli Cheeze Waffle Fries, Banging Bhaji Loaded Fries, a Plant Based Burger Sauce, and Maple Lime Chipotle BBQ Sauce.

Since debuting the wings in 2017 at Biff’s London street food stall, the wings have become a firm favourite among diners at Biff’s some 50 delivery kitchens and some of the UK pub chains they are available from.

Now fans of the food will be able to recreate the comfort food dishes in their own kitchens, using the ready-to-cook items made from fresh jackfruit.

Biff’s says it used the ingredient as it tastes ‘incredible’ as well as being succulent. Flavoured with a secret herb and spice mix, and coated in panko breadcrumbs, the alternative is a good option for meat lovers and vegans alike.

‘Proper street food’

In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Biff Bloom-Burrows, co-founder of Biff’s, said: “Our flavour-packed Crispy Fried Jackfruit, fries and sauces celebrate the hands-on joys of proper street food.

“It proves that cutting out meat doesn’t have to mean boring: by bringing the first vegan wing with a ‘bone’ to the supermarket shelves we’re changing the definition of the word ‘boneless’ for the better.

“Jackfruit is a fantastic option for people looking for an authentic, meaty experience, without lots of additives and processing.

“With the launch of the Biff’s Plant Shack range in Waitrose we are incredibly excited to be making delicious plant-based options more accessible to everyone at home.”

Biff’s Plant Shack range will be available in the chilled aisles of 280 UK Waitrose stores from 6th April 2022. RRPs are £2.50 for sauces, £3.95 for waffle fries, and £4.50 for wings and burgers.
