Waitrose supermarket has just launched its first vegan bacon products to make brunches even better.
Last year, Waitrose supermarket became the first supermarket in the UK to add a dedicated vegan section in 125 stores nationwide with fifty brand new vegetarian and vegan products to choose from thanks to rising demand from consumers.
The retailer has seen sales of its vegan products soar by 35% compared to last year, with searches for vegan bacon on its website increasing by 94%. Keen to take advantage and give customers what they want, Waitrose has just launched its first own-brand vegan streaky ‘facon’ slices and streaky pieces.
Both the streaky slices and pieces, which are made from seitan, make a great addition to a fry-up up or in a BLT sandwich thanks to their “rich, smoky and earthy flavour” which Waitrose has achieved by curing the products in maple syrup for a hint of sweetness.
Describing the innovative new product, Simona Cohen-Vida, Vegan Product Developer at Waitrose & Partners comments: “Making delicious, innovative and great quality vegan products is a huge part of what we do. Our vegan bacon strips have been carefully smoked to get a deep rich flavour and the spices used with the seitan makes them perfect for frying.
“Try them in a sandwich with lashings of tomato sauce or pop them on top of your favourite vegan burger for the ultimate Friday night feast.”
New vegan products
As well as launching vegan bacon products, Waitrose has also added some new vegan options to its range such as a Mushroom & Roasted Garlic Ravioli after seeing searches for vegan pasta on Waitrose.com were up 59% compared to last year.
There is also a colourful selection of new ready meals to choose from including Vegetable Noodle Laksa, Goan Vegetable Curry and a Roasted Butternut Squash & Vegetable Bowl.
