High-street restaurant chain Wagamama have launched their first complete vegan and vegetarian menu.
Japanese restaurant Wagamama is joining the likes of Zizzi’s and Pizza Express in offering their customers a vegan menu. The chain currently offer several options which are vegan or can easily be ‘veganised’, such as yasai gyoza (steamed vegetable dumplings), noodle-tastic yasai itame, and other options which can be veganised simply by switching up the noodles and leaving out the fish sauce.
However, the current menu is limited for vegans and often involves ordering a vegetarian item and leaving off certain components of the meal, so this is welcome news indeed!
What’s on the menu?
Wagamama’s say their new menu has been designed around the idea that meat free shouldn’t mean taste free. Dishes include a new vegan kare burosu (made with shichimi-coated silken tofu and grilled mixed mushrooms on a bed of udon noodles in a curried vegetable broth), a yasai pad thai, yasai yaki soba and yasai itame which is comprised of rice noodles in a spicy green coconut and lemongrass soup with tofu and vegetables. topped with stir-fried beansprouts, red and spring onions, bok choi, peppers, mushrooms and chilli. garnished with coriander and fresh lime.
Diners can cleanse their palates at the end of the meal with a cooling pink guava and passion fruit sorbet or lemongrass and lime sorbet.
Sadly the much anticipated seitan katsu curry has not made an appearance on the menu despite being trialled at their Noodle Lab test kitchen (although a vegetarian option made with sweet potato aubergine and butternut squash has been added to the vegetarian menu). However we are pleased to hear there is a vegan version on it’s way!
