This year, the oldest tennis tournament in the world will be serving up vegan cream with strawberries as well as vegan ice-cream.
It’s estimated that roughly 27,000 kilos of strawberries are eaten each year during the Wimbledon Championships, together with 7,000 litres of cream.
However, this year the oldest tennis tournament in the world will be serving up vegan cream with the quintessential summer-time treat in a move that vegan campaigners are hailing as “testament to the ever-growing demand for vegan fare.” To help sports fan at the even keep their cool, visitors can also enjoy a selection of vegan ice-creams.
In a statement, PETA Director of Vegan Projects, Dawn Carr, said: “PETA first urged Wimbledon to offer strawberries and vegan cream in 2017, and we’re delighted to make a racquet about the new cruelty-free treat.
“Vegan cream is not only packed with flavor and kinder to animals and the environment but also a healthier alternative for tennis fans to enjoy in the heat.”
The vegan charity also mentioned that a number of players at the tournament will be wearing “high-tech vegan kit made with recycled plastic and designed especially for Wimbledon by Stella McCartney.”
