Young Vegans has opened its first brick-and-mortar location this week in London’s Camden Market.
Having made their name at street food events around the UK over the past two years, Carla and Marco Casadei have taken their pie and mash business to the next level by opening a bricks and mortar location in Camden Market.
British handheld pies
The vegan eatery specializes in iconic British handheld pies—a dish similar to a pot pie in which a flakey crust is filled with vegan meats, cheeses, vegetables, and sauces, and traditionally served with a side of mashed potatoes doused in piping hot vegan gravy. On World Vegan Day (November 1), they are also launching a limited edition Mac & Cheese pie.
The Young Vegans menu includes a pie made with seitan and sweet ale beer, a sweet potato pie stuffed with vegetables in a tomato sweet wine sauce, and a breakfast pie featuring tofu scramble, sausage, and caramelized onions. The eatery also serves gluten-free peanut butter brownies.
Hackney Downs Vegan Market
Prior to opening the brick-and-mortar location, Young Vegans—founded by Carla and Marco Casadei in 2016—has operated as a stand at the weekly Hackney Downs Vegan Market, where it recently debuted a vegan Cheeseburger Pie.
This weekend, the company will introduce the Dia Del Fat Gay Vegan—a pie made in honor of famed UK-blogger Fat Gay Vegan that features seitan carnitas, refried black beans, and cheese topped with vegan sour cream and served with hash browns.
If that isn’t enough to get your comfort food alarm ringing, the market stall will also be serving pumpkin pie with sweet whipped cream topping.
