After its success in various food contests, a plant-based alternative to mincemeat has landed a deal with Holland & Barrett.
The Organic Sunflower Mince is made by Just Wholefoods, a plant-based company best known for its Vegebears (organic gummy sweets). The mince is free from soy and gluten and high in protein and is available in a pack that serves four people.
The Just Wholefoods website reads: ‘This mince alternative is packed with fibre and protein and is under 60 calories per serving. There’s also the fact that it tastes great and is just perfect for all your hearty dishes – chilli sin carne, vegan lasagne, stuffed peppers, the possibilities are endless…’
Company Director Nadia Morse told Natural Products Online: “Just Wholefoods offers inclusive, plant-based food choices that are suitable for everyone. This includes vegans, vegetarians, flexitarians and the veggie-curious who are looking for options that not only fit in with their busy lives but also deliver nutritionally.
“That’s why we are so excited about our vegan and Organic Sunflower Mince: it’s easy to prepare, packed with protein and fibre and, unlike other meat alternatives, low in salt and made without soya.”
At the Food Glorious Food competition, Master Chef winner Phil Vickery and presenter Adam Henson praised the sunflower mince for its innovation. As a result of this, 52 Midcounties stores across Gloucestershire agreed to stock the product. Soon after, it reached the finals of the Natural & Organic Products Showcase, where Just Wholefoods pitched it successfully to Holland & Barrett.
