Speaking to Manchester Evening News about her decision to open in Stockport, owner Claire Dickinson says, “We have a lot of vegans in the Stockport area. The vegan community has been really supportive.”

After being a vegan for just over a year, Claire is hoping to create a space which will make it easier for other vegans to keep up their diet choices.

“When I became vegan I realised how difficult it is…you tend to start eating the same food all the time, so it can become a little bit monotonous.

“I just wanted to make a shop where everything was safe for vegans. So I do that difficult bit and make sure that every single bit of stock is 100% vegan.”

Inside, visitors will be able to do the weekly shop safe in the knowledge that all the produce is animal-friendly.

Cooking sauces, cheeses, pastas, dried beans, tinned lentils, herbs and spices will provide enough variety for a healthy evening dinner, while plant-based milk, cream, custard, chocolate and cheesecake will deliver the sweet hit that some vegans crave in the absence of dairy.

Run by Claire with help from two of her daughters, the Herbivore Vegan Store, based on Wellington Road South near the town centre, opens with a launch party on Friday, December 16, from 6pm to 9pm.

As well as free drinks, a raffle, and food tasters, the local animal activist group Pig Save – who work to expose the suffering of animals – will also be at the launch.
