Fans of cruelty-free fashion can rejoice as the The Cambridge Satchel Company have announced they are set to release a range of leather-free bags.

The Cambridge Satchel Company launches vegan range

The Cambridge Satchel Company is partnering with Brazil-based shoe brand Melissa to launch its first leather-free handbag line. The bags are made from a unique Melflex material that’s hypoallergenic, odorless, and 100 percent recyclable, making it a great option for environmentally minded fashionistas. The Melissa x CSC Collection is available in three colours—black, red, and holographic.

“A collaboration needs two strong partners with unique design elements; taking our timeless shape and mixing it with Melissa’s iconic raw material makes perfect sense. We are also happy that this partnership offers a vegan alternative to our customers. Moreover, the PVC used is recyclable as well as 99% of the factory’s industrial waste is recycled.” – Founder and CEO of The Cambridge Satchel Company, Julie Deane

Brands that have traditionally used animal products are consistently offering more vegan options, including footwear company Vagabond which launched their vegan “Non-animal collection” last spring. Conversely, animal product-based accessories are falling out of fashion as evidenced by Prada’s recent report stating that decreased leather goods sales were responsible for a downturn in the company’s profits.
