With one in 12 people in the UK enjoying a vegan or vegetarian lunch this Christmas, Tesco has launched a handy app to help Christmas cooks to cater to their guests’ specific dietary requirements and make planning vegan-friendly Christmas meals simple.
According to new research from Tesco, one in 12 people in the UK will be enjoying an entirely vegan or vegetarian Christmas Day meal this year. Not only that, but one in five hosts (18%) will be catering for a vegan or vegetarian guest over the festive period.
This means the average Christmas host is having to cook up two versions of their Christmas main (2.3 on average, rising to three amongst 16-29-year-olds), hosting up to six (6.3) guests at a time.
Unsurprisingly, many cooks are already concerned about having to pull off a show-stopping Christmas lunch, with more than one in three (36 percent) admitting the thought is filling them with dread, while 35 percent admit they are overwhelmed by the number of options they have to cook.
The Festive Menu Helper
In order to alleviate some of the stress from those taking on the challenge of cooking Christmas lunch this year, Tesco has launched a festive menu service, The Festive Menu Helper, to help out at this testing time with suggestions on what type of starters, mains, sides and desserts to serve, from people catering for vegans and vegetarians, to people looking for some festive menu inspiration.
If you’re planning on cooking up a storm this Christmas, be sure to visit tes.co/FestiveMenuHelper, tell the app about your guests’ requirements and you will receive recipe suggestions and options for pre-prepared items to make planning your big day simpler.
The new Tesco service is also shoppable, meaning you can add ingredients and dishes straight to your basket, or print off a pre-made shopping list and take it into your nearest store.
Tesco Executive Chef, Martyn Lee, comments: “Christmas can be a stressful time and this research shows just how many different tastes festive home chefs across the nation are catering for. With pre-prepared and scratch-made suggestions, our new festive menu creation service is designed to help people looking for inspiration on what to cook to keep all their guests happy, and hopefully help ‘designated chefs’ across the nation feel a little calmer come Christmas day.”
