Applewood, a cheese company that has been producing traditional dairy cheese for more than 56-years, launched its first-ever vegan cheese last year which proved so popular that it sold out in just one day.

Now the company has secured listings at Tesco supermarket to stock its sell-out cheese, making it easier for more people to get their hands on the meltable vegan cheese.

The popular smoked cheese alternative is rolling out to Tesco stores nationwide from today (6 July) which is the third major UK supermarket to stock the product.

Applewood Vegan is now available to purchase in 470 Asda stores, 250 Waitrose and Partner stores as well as via online retailers including TheVeganKind and VBites.

In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Lisa Harrison, Senior Brand Manager for Applewood, said: “We are overwhelmed with the success of Applewood Vegan, and are thrilled that Tesco has become the third major retailer to stock our award-winning cheese. It shows that there is an increasing demand for vegan cheese, not just among the vegan community, but also with flexitarians.

“Applewood Vegan has proved to be very popular with vegans – and flexitarians – in lockdown too, due in no small part, to its excellent ‘M-Factor” – how well it melts like its dairy cheese counterparts. With the public craving melty-cheese in particular during lockdown (cheese on toast, cheese toasties), the melt factor is particularly important.”
