Fashion designer Stella McCartney has launched a new, fall/winter collection of sustainable sportswear for Adidas.
McCartney has long been recognised for her consideration of animals and the environment. Previously, she participated in ocean clean-up events and used the plastic collected in her clothing lines. Last July, the Luxury Institute’s ‘Emotionally Intelligent Brand Index’ named her brand the ‘kindest in luxury fashion’.
Her new collection will champion eco-friendly, recycled fabrics such as organic cotton, ocean plastic, recycled polyester and Econyl yarn (which is made from upcycled nylon).
The fall/winter ADIDAS BY STELLA MCCARTNEY line will include running shoes and activewear designed for outdoor sports during the colder months. Adidas Climaheat Technology, engineered to keep athletes warm, is used in the products.
In a statement for Adidas, McCartney said: ‘As the brand at the pinnacle of female sports performance and style, we have a responsibility to provide women with a choice that allows them to be part of a solution through our sustainable pieces and practices.’
She continued: ‘More than half of our apparel and a third of our footwear in FW18 are made with eco-innovative and recycled materials, such as Parley’s Ocean Plastic. It’s time to be the difference we want to see. To act now and to mean more in all we do.’
International supermodel Ming Xi, who is the face of the new collection’s global campaign, said: ‘The way Adidas and Stella McCartney come together in their collaboration is unrivalled. I am really inspired by the brand’s ambition to make a difference and it’s devotion to sustainability, which I can’t wait to get involved in.’
