Stella McCartney has received a CBE in recognition of her ‘mission to bring sustainability to fashion’.
The vegan fashion designer was awarded the highest ranking British Empire Order from King Charles III, in what she referred to as a ‘humbling’ experience.
This is the star’s second royal accolade, as she was given an OBE by the late Queen Elizabeth II back in 2013.
Stella McCartney ‘proud’
According to reports, McCartney said: “As a British designer, this is such a proud and emotional day for me. Not only to receive this incredible accolade from King Charles III, but also to have been included in Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s final Birthday Honours.”
The celeb was papped with the monarch donning her own-label dress, accompanied with satin navy stiletto vegan pumps and a lace veil designed by Emily London.
Vegan star gives back OBE
Earlier this year, vegan actor Alan Cumming handed back his OBE due to the ‘toxicity of the empire’.
The Scottish star received the award in the 2009 Queen’s birthday honours list, for his activism for equal rights in the LGBTQ+ community.
However, following the Queen’s death and subsequent discussions of the monarchy, Cumming said he had opened his eyes’ to suffering of Indigenous people around the world.
As a result, the actor returned his award and announced: “I am now back to being the plain old Cumming again.”
