Starbucks launches vegan whipped cream in the UK

Read Time:   |  24th September 2020

Pumpkin Spice Latte season is here, and this year you'll be able to order this popular seasonal drink complete with vegan whipped cream!

Starbuck’s iconic autumnal drink has returned to stores in the UK tomorrow and this year vegans can enjoy the full experience as the coffee shop giant is now offering vegan whipped cream.

The Vegan Pumpkin Spice Latte retains the authentic flavours of the fan favourite drink by combining Starbucks Espresso Roast with the sweet pumpkin base, and features notes of nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon that give it its signature spiced flavour.

To order the drink vegan, customers can pick a dairy alternative of their choice and pair it with the new soya-based Vegan Whipped Topping which has been designed so that dairy-free customers can recreate the experience of whipped cream.

The Vegan Whipped Topping has been created by Alpro and has an indulgent, silky texture and light hints of vanilla.

Prices for the PSL start from £3.30, with the same price applying to the Vegan Pumpkin Spice Latte when ordered with soya. If you’d like to order it with whipped cream then you’ll be pleased to hear the Vegan Whipped Topping is free when customers order a Vegan PSL or a Vegan Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino Blended Beverage.

In 2018, to the delight of vegans in the UK, Netherlands, France, Switzerland, and Austria, Starbucks changed the recipe of its pumpkin pie flavoured sauce to a new dairy-free recipe, meaning that the popular drink could be made vegan for the first time since its launch in 2003 using soy, oat, or almond milk in place of cows milk.

Starbucks has long offered dairy-free milk and vegan syrups for lattes, but the new launch will mark the first time the company has offered a vegan whipped cream alternative in the UK.
