Haggis and chocolate might seem like a bizarre flavour combination, but Coco Chocolatier’s vegan Haggis Spice-flavoured chocolate bars might just change your mind!

vegan haggis chocolate

Scottish chocolatier Coco Chocolatier has launched an extraordinary new flavour of vegan chocolate bar – Haggis Spice.

Combining haggis and veganism in the same breath is certainly unusual as traditionally haggis consists of mince made from animal hearts, livers and lungs.

However, haggis is also traditionally flavoured with a blend of spices and oats ingredients to give it its signature flavour making them suitable for desserts when used in recipes without the meat according to Foodiful.

So what exactly does the unusual bar taste like we hear you cry? The vegan chocolate is flavoured with cloves, allspice and nutmeg alongside black pepper for a savoury twist and vanilla to round out the flavour. The spices are then mixed into Coco Chocolatier’s signature single-origin Columbian 60% cacao dark chocolate to make the sweet treat. The bar also includes haggis’s traditional oats as an ingredient, and the result is a chocolate bar with a hint of haggis-y flavour, without the onions and offal!

The unusually-flavoured bar has been met with a mixed reception on social media, with one commenter claiming: “This hurts my Scottish ego.” We think that the tempting blend of spices and smooth dark chocolate sounds like it’s well worth a try!

If you want to try the bar for yourself, you can find it is online and at Coco Chocolatier’s Stockbridge and Bruntsfield stores.
