Sainsbury’s has announced it will be the UK’s first supermarket to stock vegan BBQ “Ribz” in time for BBQ season.
BBQ season is fast approaching and Sainsbury’s is getting ready as it announces it will soon be the UK’s first supermarket to stock 100% plant-based, BBQ “Ribz”.
Priced at £4, Plant Power’s Sweet ‘n’ Smoky Veggie Ribz are made using tempeh and are smothered in a subtly sweet and smoky sauce.
The ribz, which are also a great source of fibre and are high in protein, take just 15 minutes to cook on the BBQ making them perfect for summer parties.
In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Frankie Campbell, Plant-Based Buyer at Sainsbury’s, said: “We’re really excited to be working collaboratively with Plant Power to bring more options to the BBQ banquet this summer.
“We’re always looking out for new ways to pioneer with our plant-based products and are thrilled to offer our customers yet another delicious option to suit their lifestyles and tastes.”
Lawrence Hill, Founder of Plant Power, added: “We want to make the plant based lifestyle as convenient as it is delicious, so we’re really excited to be stocking our Sweet ‘n’ Smoky Veggie Ribz at Sainsbury’s. Made from tempeh, our BBQ Ribz not only taste sensational but have some great nutritional benefits too – we can’t wait to hear what customers think this summer!
“We’ve been overwhelmed with the demand for our range of tempeh since we launched Plant Power into the mainstream market this year.”
According to the supermarket chain, it has seen an 24% increase in customers searching for vegan products online, and a 65% increase in sales of plant-based products year-on-year as customers increasingly opt for meat-free options.
Sainsbury’s customers can get their hands on the first-of-their-kind vegan ribz from Wednesday 15th May, in stores nationwide.
