Ireland-based food company Kerry Group is launching a vegan version of its famous sausages under its Richmond brand.
Famed for their meaty sausages, Richmond is finally branching out into the world of meat alternatives as it prepares to launch meat-free sausages in UK supermarkets.
A first for the company, the meat-free bangers, which are made from a soya-based protein, are high and protein and contain 57.5 calories per sausage. Priced at £2.50 for a pack of eight, the sausages will be available in major retailers this September.
The company claims the new products offer customers the same taste as Richmond’s regular sausages and are “tasty and succulent.” They have been carefully designed to ensure they “look and taste just like a Richmond Pork Sausage, right down to the crispy skin fans love.”
Taking inspiration from the likes of Beyond Meat who have achieved success stocking its products alongside meat in stores, Richmond’s meat-free sausages will be found in the meat aisle in a bid to entice flexitarians and those looking to cut down on their meat consumption to give plant-based options a try.
Dawn Spencer, director at brand owner Kerry Foods, said: “We know how much people love our sausages – we’re the nation’s favourite. But increasingly consumers are looking for a broader range of options to choose from, and this includes alternatives to meat.
“Richmond is one of Kerry Foods’ longest-standing brands, but we’re constantly looking for ways to innovate and meet the demands of consumers. We’re confident people will love our meat free sausages just as much as our core ranges, making this a must-stock for retailers looking to appeal to families looking to try something new in their weekly shop.
“Our complete range of sausages ensures we are bringing families together at mealtimes, helping them create one meal with different options for all dietary preferences.”
Richmond meat-free sausages are due roll out to supermarkets later this month.
