There are many reasons why people go vegan from protecting animals to helping the planet and improving health. However, a new poll has revealed another reason why many people are inspired to go vegan…

According to research from vegan food brand Fry Family Food Co, nearly four in 10 Brits who have turned vegetarian or vegan have done so for a partner.

Fry’s surveyed 2,000 adults via OnePoll to discover people’s motivations for going meat-free and found that 18 per cent of respondents ditched meat or animal products to keep their partner happy, and a further 19 per cent made the switch to provide support to their partner.

Significantly, 33 per cent said they would never have considered ditching meat without the encouragement of their partner.

A massive 46 per cent of respondents also said that they had tried following a vegetarian or plant-based diet previously, with a partner encouraging them to make the switch in 49 per cent of these cases.

Friends and family members were also influential in helping people go meat-free in many cases with 16 per cent of respondents having made the switch because of their children and 19 per cent were inspired by their friends.

Encouragingly, a whopping 53 per cent of people said that eating a plant-based diet makes them feel ‘healthier and more energetic’ and 80 per cent found going vegan was far easier than they had assumed.

‘Encouragement can be really helpful’

In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Tammy Fry, from The Fry Family Food Co said: “Our research shows that when it comes to trying out a plant-based diet, encouragement from partners, family and friends can be really helpful.

“Whether it’s sharing experiences, advice or handy meal tips, talking to loved ones about the benefits of swapping to a meat-free diet can go a long way in encouraging others to reduce their meat or dairy consumption.”
