Treating yourself to a vegan takeaway pizza has never been so easy with the likes of Domino’s, Papa John’s and pizza hut all offering vegan pizzas on their menus.

However, when it comes to toppings things are less exciting with vegetables being the only option at many outlets, with the exception of Papa John’s in the UK which offers vegan pepperoni.

Things are about to get a whole lot more exciting at Pizza Hut however as the restaurant chain has teamed up with leading meat alternative brand Beyond Meat to offer plant-based meat toppings on its pizzas as part of a trial.

The companies have worked together to co-create the new plant-based meat option which is made from a flavoursome blend of garlic, paprika, and fennel seeds and aims to mimic the taste of sausage.

Under the new partnership, Pizza Hut will be the first national pizza chain to introduce plant-based meat pizzas across the United States which will be welcome news for those looking for more choice with their toppings.

If you want to try the new pizza topping it is now available for a limited time at all American Pizza Hut locations and in select locations in London, Luton and Liverpool for takeaway and delivery only while restaurants remain shut.

In celebration of the launch, the fast-food chain has added two new vegetarian pizzas to the menu. First up is the “Beyond Italian Sausage” pizza, a dairy cheese pizza topped with Beyond sausage crumble and there’s also the “Great Beyond” pizza topped with sausage crumble.

Sadly Pizza Hut does not yet offer vegan cheese on its US menu, although customers are able to add the topping to any of the pizzas on the menu so can create their own cheeseless pizza topped with vegetables and the new Beyond Meat alternative.

UK customers will be pleased to hear that vegan cheese is available at Pizza Hut and can be ordered alongside the new Beyond Meat topping at select locations.

‘Pizza lovers everywhere are going to love it’

Speaking about the new meat-free addition to the menu, David Graves, Chief Brand Officer at Pizza Hut, said: “I’d challenge anyone to try the Beyond Pan Pizza and tell the difference. I shared it with friends and family, and they couldn’t.

“The Beyond Italian sausage is rich, juicy and has the signature Pizza Hut flavors. Pizza lovers everywhere are going to love it.”

In fact, Graves is so sure that you won’t be able to tell it’s plant-based that Pizza Hut dared actor Kevin Hart to try the Beyond Italian Sausage Pizza who had just one thing to say upon tasting the new topping – “Dayym!”
