Food giant Kraft Heinz has finally launched a vegan version of its Philadelphia cream cheese in the US.
The highly-anticipated product debuted at select retailers in the southeast, with more flavours planned for a national rollout in the summer.
Made from coconut oil, the vegan cream cheese is free from gluten and boasts a ‘creamy, spreadable texture’.
‘Tastes like a dairy product’
According to Dairy Reporter, Keenan White of Philadelphia said: “We’ve carefully crafted a recipe that we believe delivers the multi-sensoria Philadelphia experience that people crave but aren’t currently getting from other plant-based products on the market.
“We focused on two major factors: delivering creamy, spreadable texture and making sure it tastes like a dairy product.”
White added how the vegan cheese alternative doesn’t taste ‘exactly’ like its dairy counterparts – but has ‘its own unique flavour’.
Vegan Philadelphia
In the UK, Philadelphia vegan cream cheese launched back in January this year.
According to Mondelez, the plant-based spread is made from a ‘unique’ combination of acts and almonds to create a ‘delicious and creamy spread’.
The recipe took two years to perfect and was put through ‘rigorous testing’ to make sure it was up to scratch.
“We’ve worked hard to make sure new product really delivers the same great taste and creaminess that people love and expect – and we’re delighted that there’s now a Philadelphia product for everyone – not a bagel or slice of toasted sourdough ever needs to go without again!” Said Louise Stigant of Mondelez International.
