Tesco supermarket is launching a cheesy vegan Oumph! Italian-style frozen pizza in 179 stores in the UK this month.

Oumph! vegan pizza in Tesco

Oumph! is a vegan meat substitute made from soya beans and organic herbs and spices. It is free from gluten and dairy, and easy to cook, grill, boil, sauté and deep fry.

The Oumph! pizza is topped with rocket, thyme and garlic seasoned Oumph!, semi-dried tomatoes and plant-based cheese. Its base is hand-stretched and baked in a wood-fired brick oven.

The pizza has already seen huge success in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. In some stores in these countries it even sold out in the first couple of days!

Anna-Kajsa Lidell, Co-Founder and Head of Progress Strategy at Food for Progress, said: ‘we believe in mouth-watering food that is kinder to the environment. With our pizza we hope to reach new consumer groups beyond the core vegan and vegetarian fan base.’

She explained: ‘There is an increasing demand for plant-based options. With all due respect to slow-cooking, often we just don’t have time to cook. This is when we need good, fast food that tastes great – like the Oumph! pizza!’

The pizza, due to hit stores on 16th September, will join a range of other Oumph! products in Tesco’s frozen section. The range includes Pulled Oumph!, Oumph! Kebab Spiced and Oumph! The Chunk.

Food For Progress will also launch Oumph! Salty and Smoky on 16th September. This meat substitute is a great addition to brunch, best served with American pancakes. It tastes great in a bagel, a full English breakfast an Oumph! O.L.T.

The pizza will be available in Tesco stores across the UK from 16th September, priced at £3.99.
