One Planet Pizza makes impressive moves towards sustainability, with new zero-to-landfill packaging

The multi-award winning vegan frozen pizza company, One Planet Pizza, announces a recyclable plastic film will now cover all of their pizzas. 

The UK’s first vegan frozen pizza company, and winners of multiple awards for their delicious dough-based creations, One Planet Pizza, have today announced their giant leap towards becoming a more sustainable company.

Plant-based pizza pioneers

Always looking to evolve themselves into a better vegan brand, the father and son team behind One Planet Pizza, Mike and Joe Hill, have taken the decision to make the environment even more of a priority to the company’s ethos, owing to their ethical standards and their customer’s preferences for waste-free shopping.

One Planet Pizza has ditched the conventional, non-recyclable plastic cling film that currently surrounds the vast majority of pre-made pizzas on the market, making their packaging 100% sustainable by introducing a recyclable film.

Zero-to-landfill

The keen-eyed pizza makers amongst us will know that One Planet already have an eco-stamp on their current packaging. Their pizza boxes are fully compostable, with the sleeve surrounding them completely recyclable. Tired of seeing single-use plastic surrounding packaged food items, and with global environmental concern surrounding single-use plastic ever-growing, One Planet decided the time had come to break free from non-recyclable plastic. Their pizzas are now proudly wrapped in a fully recyclable cling film – making them one of the first frozen pizza companies in the world to create zero-to-landfill packaging.

Co-owner and founder, Joe Hill, adds: “We’re incredibly excited to announce that, as of 2^nd September 2019, One Planet Pizza will be swapping over to a PE cling film that can be widely recycled and placed in your recycling bins at home alongside the already-recyclable pizza box sleeves! All you need to do is remove any loose bits of food or cheezly from the wrap before recycling, and pop into your recycling bin. We’ll be adding a lovely new stamp to the front of every pizza box to make it clear to consumers what to do with each part of the packaging. Happy recycling!”

Pizzas with a best before date of 02/09/20 and onward will be wrapped with the new PE cling film.
