The UK’s leading speciality cheese company Norseland is expanding its Applewood Vegan range and launching the first-ever vegan grated smoky cheese.
The cheese will be available in packs of 200g and is fortified with B12 and calcium just like the block and slices and melts like its dairy cheese counterparts.
Norseland has already added slices to the range as well as launched a vegan version of its popular Mexicana cheese following the success of Applewood Vegan.
When the smoked vegan cheese first launched in 2019, it proved to be so popular that 40% of Asda stores that stocked it sold out on the first day.

There’s good news for cheese-lovers this Christmas too the company has also announced the launch of its ground-breaking Vegan Festive Selection featuring their popular smoky Applewood and Spicy Mexicana vegan cheeses alongside new Vegan Melting Mature and Vegan Blue cheeses.
Soaring sales give rise to new opportunities
In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Lisa Harrison, senior brand manager for Applewood® Vegan, said that sales of Applewood are soaring, which has meant the company has been able to work on new products to release under the brand.
“It’s been a busy year since the launch of Applewood® Vegan with demand for our vegan cheeze products continuing to grow; UK sales of Applewood® Vegan are set to account for 20% of the total UK sales of Applewood® by the end of the year with Applewood® Vegan sales increasing by 16% month on month since July 2020,” Harrison said.
“This demand has given us the opportunity to work on new innovations for our Applewood® Vegan brand, starting with the launch of the slices in June and now we are proud to reveal Applewood® Vegan Grated, the UK’s first-ever vegan grated smoky cheeze and the first grated vegan cheeze from an established dairy brand. ”
Applewood goes global
After the sell-out success of its dairy-free cheese, Applewood has decided to take its vegan cheese offering global. The plant-based product is already prepped to launch in Canadian food retailers and on European restaurant menus.
