Plant-based food brand Squeaky Bean has launched the world’s first vegan Scotch Egg as part of its tasty vegan summer range at Tesco.

The veganised British classic will consist of golden breadcrumbs coating a moreish sausage meat alternative filled with an egg-flavoured inside.

The sausage layer is made with delicately seasoned wheat and pea protein, while the vegan egg is made with cult vegan product, Crackd, The No-Egg Egg. Vegan Picnics have levelled up!

Available in 585 Tesco stores nationwide, each pack contains six vegan Scotch Eggs and retails at £3.00.

In addition to the world’s first vegan scotch egg, Squeaky Bean has unveiled three new vegan summer-ready products, including Tomato, Red Pepper & Veta Tart; Creamy Coronation Tart, and Chargrilled Memphis Style BBQ Mini Fillets.

“Squeaky Bean’s mission to revolutionise plant-based eating”

Squeaky Bean has become a vegan’s best friend over the years, offering delicious plant-based meat alternatives, dips, and even pancakes!

Co-creator of Squeaky Bean Sarah Augustine shared with Vegan Food and Living: “You might have thought plant-based food lovers have it all now that vegan versions exist of many meat and fish products, from chargrilled chicken-style pieces to fishless fingers. Yet alternatives to products containing egg are harder to find.

“The creation of our deliciously moreish vegan Scotch Eggs are part of Squeaky Bean’s mission to revolutionise plant-based eating. We’re delighted to partner with Crackd and match this epic filling with our famous meat alternatives to create a game-changing snack.”

“Raising expectations of plant-based food”

Moreover, Tesco’s Buying Manager Daniel Bentley explained how the recent launch from Squeaky Bean will give family and friends the opportunity to enjoy tasty plant-based food together this summer, with no compromising.

Bentley shared: “The summer range from Squeaky Bean allows plant-based food lovers delicious options with no compromise. Including a supermarket first – the vegan Scotch Egg – we’re really raising expectations of plant-based food and ensuring our customers have access to the snacks they want.

The future for vegan egg

For many vegans, finding a vegan egg replacement has been a challenge. We live in a time where most meat and dairy-based foods can be easily replicated by plant-based food, although recreating an egg has proven difficult in recent years.

However, with greater investment and research into egg replacement, we predict vegan eggs will be the top vegan food trend for 2021.

According to Vegconomist, in the US, egg alternatives are the fastest-growing vegan food category with sales almost tripling by 2020.

Evidently, there has never been such an egg-citing (sorry!) time for plant-based food. Look out for Squeaky Bean’s new summer launch at Tesco supermarkets nationwide.
