A tasty new range from plant-based company The Vegilantes is launching at Morrisons stores nationwide today
A brand new plant protein food start-up called The Vegilantes has launched its siz-strong range of frozen plant-based products at Morrisons stores across the country today.
The range, which is all handmade and contains no preservatives or artificial colours, includes R*bs with BBQ Sauce; Thai Jackfruit Burgers with Cheesy Melts; BBQ Jackfruit Parcels; Ch*cken Z*ngers, Southern Fried W*ngs and Indian Bhaji Baskets filled with Vegetable Curry.
Founded in 2017 by Catherine D’Arcy, a veteran leader in the Food Industry; Sanjay Sighat, a 28-year Executive Chef and Development Chef of The Year; and Riley Riley, former VP of Facebook and Instagram, the company aims to use science “to save the planet, one meal at a time” by offering tasty plant-based products with a lower impact on the planet that animal-based products.
Sharing the story of the inspiration behind the brand, the company wrote: “In 2017, we had a dream. After years and years of waiting and hoping that someone would come up with a viable alternative to industrial livestock farming, we realised that science – or tech – could be the answer and The Vegilantes was born.”
The team has “spent years developing science-based, all-natural ingredients for three basic food groups that offered real plant-based alternatives: Meat, Pastry and Cheese.”
After many months spent in their tiny development kitchen at Chef Sanjay’s house, The Vegilantes had developed a range of “delicious products that were indistinguishable from the foods we eat every day.”
Many food brands have been donating their products to hospitals and care homes to offer support amid the coronavirus crisis, but to show their support The Vegilantes have thought outside the box, quite literally!
The company has created special packs of products in the range featuring personal messages of support from both members of the public and celebrities, which are being delivered to thousands of Frontline Workers at hospitals and care homes across the UK from today.
In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Catherine D’Arcy, CEO and co-founder of The Vegilantes said: “We’re committed to feeding the nation with healthy, delicious plant protein meals and we want to help Key Workers in any way we can. We were all set to launch our very first products but decided to give our entire first range to Frontline Staff and Key Workers.”
