Bristol’s Zetland Road recently became home to Koocha Mezze Bar, a cocktail bar and eatery serving plant-based food and vegan kebabs.
Koocha owner Noda – who took over the space previously owned by her father and completely reimagined it – has created an ideal spot to visit this summer, complete with a large outdoor terrace so that customers can eat and drink in the sun.
Open from lunch until late seven days a week, the bar serves vegan food and drinks that are heavily influenced by Persian cuisine. Diners can choose from breakfasts, mezze small plates, large plates and vegan kebabs.
Noda told us: ‘I opened Koocha because I have a passion for good food and good service. I love the idea of food sharing and small plates. It makes the whole experience much more interesting and enjoyable.’
Among the favourites are koopa (deep fried rice balls with Persian spices), ghormen sabzi (a traditional slow-cooked stew of green herbs and kidney beans) and, of course, the doner kebab (made from seitan and served in a pitta).
As for the drinks menu, it offers cocktails such as the Bramble (blackberry and elderflower liqueur mixed with lemon juice) and the delicate Persian Rose (gin, rosewater and cucumber, garnished with rose petals). For those who prefer a little less alcohol, the most popular drinks can be ordered as mocktails too.
