Morrissey is urging a major travel company to cut ties with ‘exploitative’ marine parks.
The Smiths star has written a letter to Jet2holidays CEO Steve Heapy, asking him to stop promoting marine parks that keep orcas and dolphins in captivity.
Currently, Jet2holidays promotes companies such as the infamous Loro Parque in Tenerife – despite blatant animal welfare concerns.
Undercover footage filmed by PETA found trainers at the park ‘grabbing and standing’ on animals’ faces, as well as dolphins having to live in ‘prison cells’ smaller than the car park.
‘Profiting from abuse’
“Day in and day out, these animals can do little else but swim in endless circles,” Morrisey wrote, after explaining how bottlenose dolphins suffer in these cramp environments.
“They’re even forced to perform demeaning tricks in exchange for food. Anyone who thinks that’s entertainment needs to get their head checked.
“And anyone who profits from this abuse should be ashamed.”
