Currently available in the US & Australia, Morrisons is the first British supermarket to sell Loma Linda TUNO in the UK.
The loss of ocean biodiversity is accelerating and experts predict that sealife may disappear from our oceans by 2048. Thankfully companies are increasingly seeking to create plant-based alternatives to give customers the option to enjoy products such as tuna without causing further damage to the planets eco-system by overfishing.
One of the UK’s top 10 most popular sandwich fillers is tuna, and Morrisons are making it possible for vegans to enjoy this lunchtime classic once again as it becomes the first UK supermarket to sell vegan-friendly tuna from Loma Linda.
The fish-free ‘tuna’ is made from soya protein and natural flavourings that results in a flaky texture that closely resembles the real thing.
The plant-based product is also high-protein and contains 100 calories or less per serving making it a hit with those looking to boost their protein intake with clean, sustainable ingredients.
TUNO is launching in Morrisons nationwide this week in the tinned fish aisle and will include a selection of flavours to choose from such as Spring Water, Lemon Pepper, Mayo, Sesame & Ginger and Thai Sweet Chilli which are available in 142g cans and 85g ‘on the go’ pouches.
In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Robert Wilson, Morrisons Tuna Buyer said: “We have listened to so many customers who want an easy alternative to tuna, that’s high in protein and can be used in much the same way. TUNO provides a convincing alternative for sandwiches, pasta and salads.”
