Norseland's Mexicana Vegan cheese scoops the award for best dairy-free cheese block in the Quality Food Awards 2020.

Vegan cheese just keeps getting better and better. The new spicy Mexicana Vegan has been awarded the title of best dairy-free vegan cheese block. It seems Mexicana is hot on the heels of the wildly successful Applewood Vegan, which has won numerous awards itself.

The Quality Food Awards ‘recognise and celebrate the best in retail food products available in the UK’ and was hosted digitally this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Senior brand manager for Mexicana Vegan Lisa Harrison was thrilled to win, saying: “To win the prestigious Quality Food Award just a few months after its launch is just the icing on the cake for the team that has worked on creating Mexicana Vegan. We hope that it is the first of many!”

‘Growing every day’

Mexicana Vegan is coconut-based and contains the same fiery spice mix and real bell and jalapeño peppers as the original dairy version. It has been extremely popular with vegans, vegetarians and flexitarians alike due to its meltability, proving to be perfect for spicing up toasties, pizzas, paninis, pasta bakes and enchiladas.

Norseland’s first vegan cheese Applewood Vegan has been more popular than anyone imagined, now accounting for 20% of all Applewood sales in the UK, and revealing a global launch just last month. Moreover, the brand has launched an exciting festive vegan cheese selection including Applewood, Mexicana and two new flavours.

Lisa Harrison added, “The success of Applewood Vegan inspired us to look at creating a vegan alternative for Mexicana as we knew that the demand for dairy alternatives is growing every day.”

Flexi-Friday

Earlier this year, Norseland also launched a new website to help cheese lovers with a flexitarian lifestyle.

The website features easy recipes using their two vegan cheeses, and tips for being flexitarian. The brand hopes the website encourages people to engage in a day of more climate-friendly eating each week.

Want to try the award-winning spicy cheese for yourself? You can find Mexicana Vegan in 300 Asda stores across the UK.
