Footwear giant Mercer Amsterdam has debuted new iterations of its bestselling Re-Run trainers.
Available in a range of colour blends, the new sneaks are PETA vegan-certified and produced in BSCI and ISO140001-certified factories.
They feature a sugarcane and recycled rubber outsole, along with an upper made from recycled ocean plastic and pineapple leather.

“We combined two best-selling concepts: recycled plastic-bottle mesh and vegan pineapple ‘leather’ and turned it into our Re-Run Pineapple,” the brand said.
“More specifically the upper is made from the leaves of pineapples from local pineapple farmers from the Philippines.
“[This] provides them with extra income and substituting animal-based ingredients for plant-based ingredients.”

‘Intrinsic motivation’
In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, owner Pim Dresen said: “I’m proud to see how much we have grown over the last couple of seasons, which weren’t great times for fashion.
“I think the reason we keep growing is that we have an intrinsic motivation to change the footwear business for the better.
“While we are nowhere near our end goal, we do try everything we can as a small brand.”
Dresen added that multiple retailers were contacting the company, requesting to stock the new trainers.
He also said the brand aims to open a Paris and London location in 2024.
Prices for Mercer Amsterdam’s Re-Run trainers start from €179.
