Fast food giant McDonald’s has just launched veggie-packed vegan nuggets in its Norway branches.
McDonald’s has never held veggies in terribly high regard. In the UK and USA, there are no vegan-friendly burgers on offer, and you get the feeling it’d still be frying potatoes in beef fat if not for a class-action lawsuit. Also, there was that time it made a “kale is dumb” joke (which has since backfired).
But the fast food giant is clearly keen to offer customers looking for meat-free options the opportunity to grab a bite to eat with the launch of vegetable-packed vegan nuggets in its Norway locations.
According to LiveKindly, the nuggets are made up of a blend of chickpeas, cauliflower, corn, carrots, onion, and potatoes and are coated with crunchy fried breadcrumbs.
Not only has McDonald’s Norway launched vegan nuggets, it has also released a vegetarian burger, Vegetarian McFeast burger, that can be made vegan if ordered without cheese.
McDonald’s veggie burger features a breaded bean-based patty, McFeast sauce, dairy cheese, mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion.
The company has also hinted that more vegan options could be on the way in the near future as it is tracking major trends and exploring ways in which they can offer consumers meat-free options.
Speaking to VegNews, Senior Vice President for the company, Lucy Brady, said: “Plant-based protein is something we’re keeping our eye on.”
In 2017 the company introduced its first ever vegan burger to the menu in restaurants in Finland, but said there were no plans to roll out the new option globally.
However, in 2018 it introduced the first ever Veggie Happy Meal and a new Spicy Veggie Wrap to its menu in the UK, which has been accredited by the Vegetarian Society, to provide a greater choice for its customers.
