Burton’s Biscuit Co. has launched a vegan version of its popular Maryland Cookies,

Make yourself a cuppa because the nation’s favourite cookie brand, Maryland, has finally launched vegan cookies in the UK!

To make their classic chocolate chips cookies suitable for vegans, Burton’s Biscuits has removed whey powder from the recipe.

Available to buy from Home Bargains stores now, the new Maryland vegan cookies cost just 65p. This means they’re the perfect, affordable treat for elevenses.

You won’t need to worry about spending ages searching the shelves for the vegan cookies either as they come in shiny new packing too.

In order to make them easily recognisable, Maryland’s vegan cookies come in green packaging with a plant-based design.

Affordable vegan products

Many brands that release vegan versions of their signature products often offer these at a higher price.

However, Burton’s Biscuit was keen to ensure that the vegan community were not forced to pay more. In fact, the new Maryland vegan cookies are available for just 65p, the same price as the non-vegan version.

In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Alice Boardman, Senior Brand Manager from Burton’s Biscuit Co explained: “Consumers are looking for easy-to-find vegan products that are more exciting than a plain biscuit and are not commanding the premium price often associated with vegan-friendly products.”

Customers need not worry that the vegan cookies won’t retain all the nostalgic flavours as the brand’s classic cookies either as Burton’s Biscuits assures us that they taste just as delicious.

“Maryland is synonymous with great tasting cookies and we’re not compromising on taste when it comes to our new Vegan Cookies. We’re proud to now be able to offer the same great taste of our choc chip cookies to vegan and flexitarian biscuit fans,” Boardman claims.

Accidentally vegan biscuits

Although these are the official vegan product from Maryland, the brand’s sugar-free cookies are also an accidentally vegan treat.

The new cookies are the latest vegan launch from Burton’s Biscuit following the launch of vegan Jammie Dodger’s last year.

Jammie Dodgers were previously a favourite accidentally vegan biscuit before milk protein was added to the recipe.

But thanks to vocal fans sharing their disappointment, we can once again enjoy these classic cookies!

Burton’s Biscuits decision to simply remove milk from its recipes to make its products vegan is an encouraging step we hope many more companies will follow.

Looking for vegan products in the supermarket? Don’t miss these accidentally vegan treats!
