Marks & Spencer has just launched an exciting new product in its vegan Plant Kitchen range – vegan marshmallows!

The Plant Kitchen Marshmallows, which are priced at £1.60 for a 150g bag, come in the classic pink and white colour of traditional marshmallows and are perfect for adding to desserts, freakshakes and toasting on bonfires.

Announcing the news on social media, the company wrote: “Say hello to our FIRST EVER vegan marshmallow! A national food retailer first, our Plant Kitchen marshmallows are fluffy, delicious and made without the gelatine. Pick up in store now, and try in s’mores or rocky road.”

‘No compromise’

According to M&S product developer Katy Patino, creating soft and squishy marshmallows without gelatine was a tricky task that took over a year to complete. The retailer was keen to ensure that the marshmallows had a realistic texture and a sweet vanilla flavour that mimicked non-vegan marshmallows as closely as possible.

In a statement, Patino, said: “The key to the Marshmallows was making sure they are suitable for vegans with absolutely no compromise on texture of flavour!

“We made sure each pack is full of the  best soft and squishy marshmallows that give you a warm and fuzzy feeling inside when you pop them into your mouth – we can’t wait to hear what customers think about them!”
