A brand new zero waste vegan Christmas market is coming to London this December that brings together a wealth of eco-friendly brands and products under one roof for stress-free shopping that doesn’t cost the Earth!

Christmas is traditionally a time of excess that sees the UK create an additional 30% more waste. The Zero Waste Christmas Market is keen to tackle this issue head-on and is designed to meet the growing demand for greener, more planet-friendly gifting during a time of year.

Zero Waste

In Britain last year we chucked away, 450,000 double-decker buses worth of rubbish, 54 million platefuls of food and 108 million rolls of wrapping paper. Consumer awareness of the plastic problem and excessive waste is at its peak, due to the spotlight on the state of our oceans. This awareness is fuelling the desire for change; for less plastic and more ethical, sustainable shopping solutions.

Melaine Fisher is taking a stance against the needless amount of waste we produce as consumers by offering them an alternative way to shop for gifts this Christmas at London’s first zero waste Christmas market.

You won’t find any single-use plastic, packaging or animal-derived food at The Zero Waste Christmas Market, which aims to send nothing to landfill at the festive event, although the organisers acknowledge that some waste is unavoidable as vendors travel to the venue.

Speaking about the decision to launch a Christmas market for eco-conscious shoppers, market organiser Melanie Fisher said: “I love Christmas – everybody does, but I also care about the planet. Christmas is the perfect opportunity to have the conversation about overconsumption and environmental impact, but to do so in a way that is both inclusive and enjoyable. I want to make it fun and easy for people to do the right thing whilst addressing the issue of consumer waste at the same time.”

Eco-Friendly Gifts

Popping up on Saturday 8th of December at the Hoxton Arches, the Zero Waste Christmas Market aims to provide visitors with eco-friendly gift alternatives. Visitors can browse a selection of goods from stocking-fillers to luxury items, across fashion, food & drink, beauty, home & lifestyle, travel and seasonal must-haves.

Ticket-holders can enjoy a slice of vegan cake and a mulled coffee whilst meeting sustainable brands such as Gungho Design, EcoGlitterFun, Oddbox, Acala, Optiat and more.

From 14.00 – 21.00 ticket-holders can explore an eclectic array of stalls offering sustainable, ethical, compostable, recyclable and reusable gifts. With talks from key figures, festive workshops and Christmas hamper competition, market-goers can still celebrate Christmas, whilst investing in brands that celebrate the Earth.

Founder of biodegradable glitter brand Eco Glitter Fun Sophie Awdry said: “ We love that consumers are demanding more sustainable products and it’s fantastic for all of us to be brought together under one roof.”

Food & Drink

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without delicious festive fare, and you’ll find plenty at the market. Visitors to the event will find a bar run by TOAST Ale, burgers from Veganauti, sweet treats and vegan pâtisserie from Horia as well as chocolate from Food at Heart.
