Grammy award-winning singer Lizzo has once again hailed the benefits of a vegan diet.
The star, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, ditched animal products back in 2020 after following a vegetarian diet for seven years.
These days, the vegan celebrity regularly uses her platform to advocate plant-based eating.
In a recent cover interview with Vanity Fair, Lizzo discussed body positivity and her relationship with food.
‘I just feel better’
“I lead a very healthy lifestyle—mentally, spiritually, I try to keep everything I put in my body super clean. Health is something I prioritise, wherever that leads me physically,” she said.
“Like veganism, people were like, ‘You’re a vegan? What, are you deep frying the lettuce?’ I’m not a vegan to lose weight, I just feel better when I eat plants”.
The star also admitted to stress eating and how society views weight gain as an inherently negative change, adding: “Food is fun. I love eating, and I have a chef now, and I’m not thinking about it. I had a brownie last night.”
Lizzo’s vegan journey
Back in October 2020, Lizzo celebrated six months of being vegan, after discovering the plant-based diet during lockdown.
“So being plant-based and vegan has been pretty easy, except for when I am hungover. I used to crave cheesy eggs,” the star said in one TikTok video.
Since then, Lizzo has shared a slew of vegan recipes and vegan product reviews to her millions of fans – including a vegan version of Gordon Ramsay’s viral breakfast recipe.
