Formula One champion and vegan entrepreneur Lewis Hamilton has taken to Instagram to praise a vegan diet for alleviating his British Bulldog Roscoe’s multiple health issues.

The British racer first told social media that he was transitioning his beloved dog to a vegan diet back in July, and it appears that this has transformed his life for the better.

Lewis told his 20 million followers: “This is Roscoe, I’ve had him for eight years now… He ate normal dog food all of his life, as well as food with meat in it. His breathing has always been bad, which meant he was never able to walk very far and his joints would hurt. He also had skin allergies.

“Three months ago, I decided to transition him to a vegan diet. It has changed his life. He now doesn’t have any breathing issues, his throat is no longer restricted, and he doesn’t overheat like he did before and he loves to run. He also has no allergy issues.

“He’s like a puppy again! It’s been amazing to see these changes in Roscoe and I’m so grateful to be able to share this.”

While heavily praising a vegan diet for his pet Roscoe, he added “I always recommend consulting with your vet before making any changes to your pet’s diet to ensure their nutritional needs are being met – which is the most important thing.”

PETA explains that dogs can definitely thrive on a plant-based diet with ‘the right planning and care’. Dogs require two amino acids: L-carnitine and taurine, which can be added to dog food or taken as supplements in plant-based form.

If you think it is best for your dog to transition to a vegan diet like Roscoe, we recommend doing so under the supervision of a qualified vet.
