It’s no secret that Leonardo DiCaprio is passionate about saving the planet. From his amazing documentary ‘Before the Flood’ to his oscar-winning speech stressing the urgency of climate action, our Leo is a fearless proponent of environmental activism.
The star often takes to social media to encourage his fans to follow in his footsteps, and just last week he urged his 19 million Twitter followers to reduce their meat intake in an effort to mitigate climate change.
Posting on Twitter, DiCaprio shared a picture from Beyond Meat stating: “If every person in the US replaced just one beef burger per week with a plant-based Beyond Burger. It would be the equivalent of taking 12 million cars off the road.”
He captioned the photo: “Every single person can help the planet and reduce climate change with one small choice every week. Join me and @BeyondMeat in our mission to rethink the future of food. #BeyondMeatPartner“
The post was met with a widely positive reaction from his followers, with many praising the taste of Beyond Meat compared to meat-based burgers.
In fact, the tweet has had over 2,000 retweets and over 11,000 likes. With this many people supporting the switch to plant-based alternatives, a vegan future could be slowly emerging on the horizon.

‘Prevent future pandemics’
Aside from his environmental activism, DiCaprio has also fiercely campaigned for the end of the wildlife trade to protect human health.
Last year, the actor expressed his support for the Preventing Future Pandemics Act to his more than 46 million followers on Instagram, stating:
“If you care about preventing the next pandemic, please ask your Senator to co-sponsor Senate Bill S. 4749, the ‘Preventing Future Pandemics Act,’ introduced by @corybooker and @johncornyn, so that we can reduce the risk of a pandemic like COVID happening again.”
Covid-19 has had a devastating impact across the globe, totalling over 2.6 million deaths worldwide and counting. As the zoonotic disease originated from a live animal and seafood market, it is imperative that we take action to prevent further diseases from having the same impact.
In fact, experts are already warning that Bird Flu could become the next global pandemic, and the thousands of factory farms across the globe are providing the perfect environment for it to develop and spread.
To prevent this potential second pandemic, both animal markets and factory farms need to be shut down, and this can only happen if consumers reduce their meat intake, as Leonardo DiCaprio is urging.
