Leonardo DiCaprio has backed vegan shoe brand Løci during its latest seed funding.

The acclaimed actor and environmentalist invested an undisclosed amount to the British footwear brand – who recently raised £4m for its ‘next stage of growth’.

Other investors include James Carnes, Adidas’ ex VP of global brand strategy and sustainability.

‘Proud to be an investor’

Speaking to his 19.6 million Twitter followers, DiCaprio said: “I am proud to be an investor in LØCI, a brand dedicated to minimising its environmental impact, and centred around creating cruelty-free, ethical footwear.”

“The idea behind Loci was to innovate in an area where people weren’t necessarily doing things differently. For us, being sustainable and cruelty-free was key,” co-founder Emmanuel Eribo told Footwear News.

This is not the first vegan business venture for the star, who has already invested vegan food chain Neat Burger, as well as cultivated meat and seafood brands such as Mosa Meat and Aleph Farms.

Is Leonardo DiCaprio vegan?

Speculation around Leonardo DiCaprio’s diet has always been rife – but is the star vegan?

Last year, the Don’t Look Up actor partnered with Beyond Meat and urged his followers to fight the climate crisis by slashing meat consumption.

DiCaprio also reportedly requested a vegan meal for the 2020 Governors Ball following the Oscars ceremony.

And even back in 2019, Moby hinted that the star may have already ditched animal products from his diet.

Writing for the Spectator, he said: “I’d recently sold a house to Leo’s parents, and had in the process become friends with Leo. (As an aside, before selling the house to Leo’s parents, there was a brief bidding war between his family and Morrissey.

“In Los Angeles, bidding wars on houses take place between bold-face vegans.)”

However, DiCaprio himself has yet to explicitly clarify whether he’s vegan or not, so it’s hard to know whether he’s still to join the ever growing list of vegan celebrities around the world.
