The Preventing Future Pandemics Act
The coronavirus that caused COVID-19 is believed to be zoonotic, which means that it jumped the species barrier from animals to humans. Many experts believe the initial transmission occurred at Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market, in Wuhan, China, a live animal and seafood market.
The new legislation proposed in the Act would establish official foreign policy for the United States, enabling the country to work with state and non-state partners to put an end to the wildlife trade and shut down commercial wildlife markets for good.
Legislation to shut down live animal markets can only be a good thing, both for human health and the animals cruelly sold there.
If you live in the US, you can express your support for the bill to your Senator, by finding their information and contact details here.
