Brace yourself plant-lovers, the time has finally come for Krispy Kreme to launch a vegan version of their Original Glazed Doughnuts.
With over 2 million Brits now eating a predominately vegan diet, it was about time that Krispy Kreme created a vegan doughnut.
The new Original Glazed Vegan doughnut will have the same iconic taste of the non-vegan version and still feature their signature glaze.
With a brand-new vegan recipe, the doughnut retailer hopes to bring ‘melt-in-your-mouth joy’ to 450,000 Veganuary participants.
‘Absolutely no compromise’
In a statement sent to Vegan Food and Living, Krispy Kreme’s Head of Innovation for the UK, Louise Direito, said: “We are excited to extend our range of iconic irresistibly original doughnuts with the launch of our first ever Vegan offering, available exclusively in the UK.
“We know January is a time that many are trying out new lifestyles and set ourselves the challenge to create a plant-based doughnut that is equally delicious as the original, with absolutely no compromise.”
Vegan doughnuts in the UK
This won’t be the first vegan doughnut to enter the UK market, nor the last. Londoners will be familiar with the wildly successful doughnut chain Doughnut Time which has multiple vegan flavours, as well as Crosstown Doughnuts’ iconic vegan sourdough doughnuts.
Moreover, several major UK supermarkets have ‘accidentally vegan’ doughnuts in their bakeries. One example is Morrisons, who just re-launched a festive favourite, their Gingerbread Doughnuts. Additionally, you can pick up vegan jam and custard doughnuts from Sainsbury’s and Co-op.
The Original Glazed Vegan is available in a pack of 12 doughnuts for pre-order today, to be delivered from the 5th January 2021.
The Vegan Dozen is priced at £10.45 + delivery.
