Last year, after KFC announced plans to develop meat-free options, over 12,600 people signed a petition encouraging the fast-food chain to create a vegan-friendly version of its popular fried chicken dishes. Now the global fried chicken giant is getting set to launch its first vegan chicken burger in the UK as part of a trial – the Imposter burger.

The Imposter burger will launch as part of a month-long trial running from 17th June to 15th July and features a specially created Quorn burger coated in the company’s signature blend of 11 secret herbs and spices and served with lettuce and vegan mayo. The Imposter burger will be priced £2.99 or £3.49 if ordered with a drink.

If you prefer wraps to burgers then the chicken alternative is also available as a wrap with a drink for £3.99, while the salad box option with a drink costs £3.79.

Game-changing

In a statement, Chief Vegetable Enthusiast at KFC UK & Ireland, Victoria Robertson, commented: “Vegans have been cruelly denied the incredible taste of KFC up to now, which is why we’ve worked hard to perfect The Imposter – a vegan burger that the Colonel would be proud of.”

Tony Davison, Head of Global Foodservice & QSR at Quorn added: “A vegan KFC? We couldn’t believe it either. ‘But we’ve done it – working with KFC we’ve created a bespoke Quorn fillet that does the Colonel’s recipe justice. We have no doubt that KFC fans are going to love the modern take on a finger lickin’ favourite.”

The move has been praised by animal rights charity PETA, with Director of Vegan Corporate Projects, Dawn Carr, stating: “We’ve been so excited to hear about this and play a part in KFC’s journey to reaching this game-changing new vegan range. ‘We’re confident it will be a huge hit with the skyrocketing numbers of vegans, vegetarians, and flexitarians around the UK.”
