Juicy Marbles steaks were trialled by the supermarket in February, as part of a Valentine's Day meal deal - now shoppers will now be able to buy the product year-round

Waitrose has become the first UK supermarket to stock ultra realistic steaks created by plant-based pioneer Juicy Marbles.

The listing follows a successful trial earlier this year, where shoppers could buy the vegan meat as part of the supermarket’s Valentine’s Day meal deal.

During the trial, during which consumers could pick up a two-pack of the steaks with a selection of vegan starters, sides, dessert and a bottle of wine for only £20, Waitrose sold through 86 per cent of Juicy Marbles steaks in just four days.

This made the product one of the retailer’s fastest-ever selling plant-based products.

And, it adds, despite being part of the Valentine’s Day Meal Deal, almost 40 per cent were sold as standalone items, which it says ‘indicated a huge underlying demand for the product’.

The brand launched its vegan steaks in 2021, to instant praise from fans and the industry, and several plaudits.

As well as having its products ranked among the Top 100 Products of 2022 by Gear Patrol, Juicy Marbles was the number one pick of 2022 by vegan media outlet VegNews’ Finer Things Club.

Juicy Marbles says its meats ‘are not grown in a lab, 3D-printed or made with shady chemicals’.

It adds that the steaks are ‘rich in micro and macro nutrients and fibre, and low in both saturated fat and cholesterol, making them easy to include in a wholesome, diverse diet’.

Both novice and skilled chefs can work with the steaks, which are raw and unseasoned, and can be eaten alone or in recipes including wellingtons, broths and bowls.

‘Our customers went wild’

In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Luka Sinček, co-founder of Juicy Marbles, said: “Mr Marbles will be pleased to see the introduction of Juicy Marbles’ steaks in Waitrose, one of the UK’s most respected supermarkets.

“After flying the flag for romantic meals in February, [our] steaks are now readily available in the UK for everything from last-minute solo dinners to looming family meal prep and wild dinner parties with friends.”

Catherine Shacklock, vegan buyer at Waitrose, added: “Our customers went wild for [the] steaks last month and have been anticipating their return with searches on Waitrose.com for the plant-based alternative not showing any signs of slowing down.

“We’re thrilled to announce they will be returning to Waitrose, with not long to wait until you can get your next fix of plant-based deliciousness! You’ll be able to find them on shelves with all of our other plant-based products this April.”
