Los Angeles-based animal rights nonprofits LA Animal Save and Animal Alliance Network have launched a new billboard campaign that calls on the public to choose compassion and go vegan.
Two billboards have appeared in the city featuring a photo of Oscar-winning actor and lifelong vegan Joaquin Phoneix attending a pig vigil.
One billboard features the message: “Save Animals, Go Vegan”, whilst the second features a chicken alongside the message: “Choose Kindness, Go Vegan.”
The new billboards are located near Lento Market and Farmer John’s slaughterhouse where the organisation’s vigils take place.
Taking to Instagram to share the news, LA Animal Save said: “Our billboards and bench ads ARE UP. The timing isn’t great since the world is on lockdown (due to most people perpetuating an institution of violence against animals) but we can still make an impact by sharing on social media.
“If you live near any of the locations* please tag us and @animalalliancenetwork in photos.”
Animal Alliance Network added: “Even though the vigils are canceled right now the movement must go on and we are still out there stronger than ever in this new print ad campaign! We’re so proud we were able to make this happen.”
Joaquin made headlines after scooping up multiple awards for his role in The Joker movie and for his impassioned acceptance speeches slamming the injustice cows in the dairy industry are subjected to.
A week later he scooped up the Academy Award for Best Actor and less than 48 hours after winning the award he was seen liberating cows from slaughter.
