Following on from the success of his food truck initiative, Jaden Smith is opening his first restaurant to help feed the homeless population in Los Angeles.

The actor launched the ‘I Love You’ food truck two years ago to distribute food to the homeless in Los Angeles’ Skid Row area and ‘make vegan food accessible for low-income communities.

Speaking to Variety, Smith explained that customers who are able to pay for their meals will be encouraged to pay it forward so that those in need are able to enjoy a hot, nutritious, plant-based meal.

Jaden said: “If you’re not homeless, not only do you have to pay, but you have to pay for more than the food’s worth so that you can pay for the person behind you.”

The musician added that the new venture is “a movement that is all about giving people what they deserve, healthy vegan food for free”.

Jaden initially launched the ‘I Love You’ food truck in 2019 as part of his 21st birthday celebration to give “people what they deserve, healthy, vegan food for free”.

The truck proved popular with the recipients with Smith sharing a video on Instagram of a queue of people grabbing a bite to eat from the van.

A keen philanthropist, Jaden also pledged his support to help those living in the Michigan town of Flint after they were left without clean drinking water between 2014 – 2019.

The singer-songwriter donated profits generated from his JUST Water company to fund filtration systems that were placed around the city.
