The UK’s leading fruit smoothie and juice brand, Innocent Drinks, has announced the release of its first range of plant-based milks.

According to Innocent, the drinks contain only their main ingredient, with spring water and salt added. The Hazelnut milk also uses organic rice to create a thicker, creamier drink, without the need to add unnatural additives.

The upcoming range of plant-based milk will retail at £1.99 per 750 ml. The dairy-free drinks will initially be sold in Waitrose and via Ocado, and will be available soon after in Tescos, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrisons.

PET bottle

The milk bottles are recyclable and are made from a minimum of 30% recycled PET, a safe non-toxic and recyclable plastic material. Whilst many people are keen to cut down on their plastic consumption, the fact that the bottle is recyclable makes the bottle a slightly more environmentally friendly option than other pre-made packaged vegan milk on the mainstream market as they often come packaged in less environmentally-friendly Tetra Paks which are not always able to be recycled dependant on the area you live in.

Speaking to The Grocer, Innocent’s managing director for the UK and Ireland said: “We set ourselves a huge challenge to produce a great tasting and great looking product in a PET bottle without using any artificial additives. We’re really proud of what we produced.”
