The IKEA Food division just announced its development of the Veggie Dog, a completely vegan hot dog.
In a bid to provide more sustainable and ‘healthier’ options to customers, flat-pack furniture giant IKEA are launching a completely vegan hot dog in stores, which is being touted as a ‘a greener version of an icon’.
The company’s goal is to provide a more sustainable option for all shoppers and to demonstrate their dedication to providing health-promoting products.
“Every year 660 million people enjoy the IKEA Food offer, and we see this global reach as an opportunity as well as a responsibility to serve food that is good for people and the planet,” said Michael La Cour, Managing Director at IKEA Food.
La Cour has big plans for the Veggie Dog, as the company are planning on marketing the new product to those who may normally opt for the stores famous meatballs at lunch time in the hope that they will opt for the plant-based option instead.
“There is no point in creating a more sustainable option for our customers if it isn’t tasty. With the new Veggie hot dog, we can inspire and enable customers…to choose a plant-based more sustainable option at an affordable price,” said La Cour.
The vegan option will be launched initially at the Malmo store in Sweden at the end of this month and should be available in all European stores, following several consumer tests, by August.
