Confectionery giant Hershey's is planning to launch vegan chocolate alternatives in the US soon, a first for the brand.
US confectionery giant Hershey’s will finally launch vegan chocolate as part of the brands better-for-you category.
The chocolatier is known for iconic American sweet treats such as Hershey Kisses, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and KitKat.
In order to create the new vegan chocolate, Hershey’s has teamed up with the ASR Group, purveyors of sugars, sweeteners and syrups across the globe. The two companies will co-lead an equity investment in Bonumose, Inc., a start-up that creates breakthrough innovations in plant-based food ingredients, including rare and natural sugars.
At present, no Hershey’s chocolate products are suitable for vegans, as they all contain dairy, so the addition of a plant-based alternative really will be groundbreaking.
There are no specific details about the chocolate alternative yet, but our fingers are crossed for some vegan Reese’s Cups!
‘Accessible for everyone’
Speaking on the Hershey’s website, Chief Growth Officer Kristen Riggs explained:
“We are the leader in US confection. And, our consumers rely on us to understand their needs for everyday moments, seasons, and special occasions, offering high-quality and great tasting candy that’s accessible for everyone.
“Expanding our expertise, building new capabilities and delivering more choices in better-for-you confection is the next big category opportunity for us to lead.”
‘Everyone can enjoy a Reese’s product’
Reese’s Organic brand manager Eric Newton added: “We’re continuing to expand our product line so there is a Reese’s Cup for nearly everyone.
“When consumers go down the candy aisle or shop online, we want everyone to have an option to choose from, and we aren’t settling until everyone can enjoy a Reese’s product.”
We’ve got our ears open for any hints of a launch date, so stay tuned!
